MECHANICS OF ADAPTIVE MATERIALS AND BIOMECHANICS

ARTIFICIAL HEART VALVE (AHV)

Blood flow through the aortal and mitral heart valves

Diastole
Analogues:
"Planix" (Belarus, PA"Planar")
"Karbonix-1" (Russia)
"St.Jude Medical" (USA)

Systole
Causes of hemolysis and thrombogenesis
at AHV implantation:
- formation of turbulent blood flow zone;
- cavitation in the rarefaction zone near cusps;
- growing resistance to blood flow in the boundary layer;
- impacting of elements during valve closure

Computer simulation of blood flow in implantation zone of AHV

Hemocoagulation

Physical model of blood flow
Surface nanorelief of biocompatible coating

ADVANTAGES OF ADAPTIVE AHV

- automatic positioning at implantation;
- retained natural blood flow over systole period;
- shortened operation and postoperative period;
- lowered hemodynamic resistance;
- diminished thrombogenesis and hemolysis.

Cost of AHV $600/1 pc (in contrast, "St. Jude Medical" analogue costs $ 25,000-27,000).
